These are my favorite movies I watched during 2025. Not movies that came out in 2025.

This is a story about a boy learning to overcome adversity. It is such a feel-good, which might sound weird because it’s a movie about a boy being kidnapped by a serial killer. There are sad moments, of course. The main character, Finney’s, first crush is taken by The Grabber and is never seen alive again. Finney’s sister, Gwen, tries her best to find her brother and continually fails to get anything substantial. Their father mourns his son and regrets his abuse.
But Finney gets to have a final conversation with his crush, Gwen finds the bodies of all the victims, and the father presumably changes his ways after he is reunited with Finney. It’s a sweet movie that I am happy to own now.

I adored this Italian horror movie. It was one of the most beautiful movies I’ve watched all year. It’s a bizarre story about a gravekeeper and a woman he loves. It would take far too long to recap the movie with every important detail. On my first watch, I interpreted the main character Francesco as being the Grim Reaper. But after searching for discussion online, I think it’s much more likely that Francesco is simply the persona of a comatose man who killed his wife and daughter.
Cemetery Man is a surreal ride that will have you flabbergasted again and again. It is incredibly dreamlike, which is something I’ve come to adore.

Chucky easily became one of my slasher villains. Serial killer Charles Lee Ray uses magic to put himself in a doll to avoid death. Then he spends many movies trying to move his soul back into a human body. His first target is Andy Barclay, who is just adorable in Child’s Play 1. I loved seeing Chucky interact with each of his victims, he has such charisma and easily makes me laugh.
The franchise is kind of inherently silly and it’s willing to lean hard into that. The TV show Chucky is a total blast too, it’s almost like a mix of Degrassi and Child’s Play.

A very cute animated movie about a dog, divorce, and co-parenthood. The animation is lively and beautiful. Dog Man is beyond adorable.

Of course I liked it. I’m even warming up to Movie Michael. The theater experience was fun too, my theater clapped at certain points which made me appreciative to be around other fans.
I'll be talking about this more in depth when the DVD becomes available. But for now, I love these animatronics.

No, I don’t think this movie is peak fiction or anything. I can tell it is bad. I did not care, it looked stupid fun. And it was stupid fun. Lava Chicken was fun. The memes were fun.
It came out during a hard time and it was wonderful that my husband and I had something dumb to make us laugh whenever we thought of it.

You have to be into the goofiness. It is so goofy. Freddy Krueger is a total ham. But don’t get me wrong, there’s some gross stuff in these movies. Freddy Krueger is a bad, bad guy. He is disgusting and he knows it. But the movies are fun through and through.
Each movie has some incredibly interesting sets. They use the dream powers Freddy possesses to their full extent. Characters can be asleep at any time, and the physical world can warp and transform into accurate dream worlds. As someone who has done a lot of lucid dreaming, I felt like there was a real grasp on the ins and outs of dreams.

I am so glad I watched this after I already watched like 30 slashers. Being familiar with the “rules” of a horror movie adds so much to this movie.
I love the idea of dual killers that pretend to be one, I love how Ghostface is a character in and of himself, I love how he’s a mantle for others to take on. Ghostface can be anyone, even someone that was attacked by Ghostface. It makes for a super engaging mystery each time.

Another gorgeous movie. The thing I enjoyed most about it was its colors. It has a striking use of primary colors which makes it a marvel to look at.
The movie is about a ballerina who starts attending a prestigious dance academy. Things get strange and creepy as people from the academy begin dying or go missing.

So I clearly have a thing for the weird and dreamy. If you’ve looked around this site at all you’ve probably gathered that. I wasn’t big on IT so I had low expectations, but wow was I blown out of the water.
