The Rivas Archetype is a character archetype named after the character Zoe Rivas from the Canadian teen drama Degrassi. This archetype describes a character who is insane, selfish, destructive, determined, and ENTERTAINING!!
We love characters like these. They cause endless amounts of conflict and leave us with a good show to watch. There is nuance in determining who can truly be called a Rivas Archetype, not everyone who fits the description on paper fits the bill on vibes.
The Zoe was a star on the fictional show West Drive and started attending Degrassi Community School after her character was written off.
I did not like Zoe at all when she was first introduced. Somewhere along the way, though, I realized how fun a character like her could be. Both antagonist and protagonist, villain and hero, Zoe plays a unique role on Degrassi.
Misty was on the girls soccer team at her high school. Her team survived a plane crash on their way to nationals and had to make it in the wilderness for 19 months. Misty took on the role of nurse during their time spent stranded.
Misty is an incredible character. Despite her actions, I truly think she puts her team first above everyone else. Misty is fiercly loyal.
Edie is an average woman living on the average street of Wisteria Lane. She is cunning and loves to be included, and will go to any lengths to be invited to parties and get-togethers.
Edie is far more tame than most of the characters on Desperate Housewives. However, her willingness and desire to meddle in things, and manipulate for small things such as a poker invite give her the Rivas vibe. She is a sympathetic character who can be completely level-headed, so long as she feels she's being treated fairly.
I will always take her side over Susan Mayer's.
